Thonga Beach Lodge - Your Stay in Mabibi

Thonga Beach Lodge has 12 guest rooms raised on wooden stilts in a dune forest. Room choices are Twin Rooms with Ocean View or Forest View, a Deluxe Double Room with Private Pool, a Deluxe Family Room with Private Pool, and a Family Room with Forest View. Each room has a balcony, large windows, a mosquito net, a coffee plunger with freshly ground coffee, a big shower, and dual sinks. Some rooms look over the Indian Ocean, and the Deluxe rooms have their own plunge pool. Every room includes a cool box and beach bag for beach trips.

The lodge restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and afternoon tea, all included in the room rate. Breakfast features granola, yoghurt, fresh juices, and cooked options made to order. Lunch is laid out like a high tea with small salads, tapas-style dishes, and fresh fruit. For dinner, guests pick from a small menu earlier in the day; special diets such as vegan and gluten-free can be requested. The bar stocks South African wines, cocktails, and champagne. Packed lunches are available for trips away from the lodge.

The lodge is on a private beach area at Mabibi Beach, inside the iSimangaliso World Heritage Park. Guests can snorkel, scuba dive, kayak, cycle, or take a guided forest walk. The Ocean Experience uses a Kodiak rib to search for dolphins, whales, turtles, and reef fish. In season, turtle drives let guests watch loggerhead and leatherback turtles lay eggs or hatchlings crawl to the sea. Sundowner trips go to Lake Sibaya, about 10 minutes by car, to see hippos and birds. Onsite there is an outdoor pool, a beach deck with sun loungers and umbrellas, an outdoor firepit, and a spa offering deep tissue massages and wellness packages.

Thonga Beach Lodge sits on the Elephant Coast in northern KwaZulu-Natal, inside the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. It overlooks a secluded bay and is surrounded by dune forest. The nearest village is Mabibi. Lake Sibaya is 7 km away, and the iSimangaliso Coastal Forest Gate is 7 km away. The closest restaurants, Maak n Jol and The Lighthouse Restaurant & Cocktail Lounge, are about 13 and 23 km away by car. King Shaka International Airport is 300 km from the lodge. The last section of road is sandy, so a 4x4 vehicle is required. The lodge can arrange a transfer from the car parking area twice a day, at 12:00 and 15:00, and it must be booked at least 48 hours ahead.

Housekeeping comes twice a day, and laundry and ironing services are available. The lodge can arrange airport pick-up and drop-off and a shuttle from the parking area. Babysitting, board games, kids' meals, a kids' pool, and outdoor play equipment are available for families. Special diet menus are provided on request. Guests can use the shared lounge, TV area, garden, sun terrace, and outdoor furniture. The property has accessible parking, 24-hour security, key access, and safety deposit boxes. Most staff come from the nearby village of Mabibi, and the lodge supports local schools and community projects through the Isibindi Foundation.
